Blooming Marvellous... what will you be doing this summer?

The previews of The Chelsea Flower Show have been filling our TV screens today and the glorious displays remind us of a group trip we took to Capel Manor Gardens in North London....

which is where these photos were taken...
 (in case you didn't guess)

Although the weather isn't exactly summery just yet, we are starting to see a whole range of wonderful outdoor events taking place all over the capital.

Everything from Marathon and fun runs to family days out, there is plenty to do and see...

Headway North London will be holding our annual summer picnic fun event this August as usual. This is traditionally a picnic event - we set up a picnic table and bring the food, play some games, a little music (not too loud of course)  and generally have fun...  We are happy to be outside - the only issues we have are the weather which lets face can be a bit unpredictable (and is responsible for a many a damp  or even washed out summer BBQ party ) so while a park would be fine if the weather behaves,  we do need to have the option of moving under shelter if the skies open and the rain falls. We are currently looking for possible venues in  the general North London  area so if you have any ideas or suggestions  please do let us know , we would love to hear from you.

So what are you doing in North London this summer?
If you are thinking about taking part in a summer fun event and would like to help with raising awareness of or funds for the work of Headway North London we would love to hear from you - please just  drop us a line

Looking forward to Action for Brain Injury week

Action for Brain Injury Week
13th - 19th May 2013

This year's Action for Brain Injury Week (ABI Week) will see the launch of a positive campaign aimed at GPs to assist them with diagnosing and appropriately signposting patients and carers affected by the often hidden aspects of brain injury.

The aim of this campaign is to develop stronger working relationships with GPs and new commissioning groups. By providing information and resources, we want to help GPs better identify patients who may be affected by brain injury and ensure they are subsequently referred to appropriate services.

Brain injury is often referred to as a  hidden disability and can lead to difficulties in diagnosis. Many people affected report to us that they have had difficulty in accessing appropriate care and support, despite presenting their problems to their GP.

We know that the majority of GPs provide first-rate care to those presenting  with symptoms which indicate that brain injury is, or could be, the reason behind their issues and we hope to  highlight best practice by creating GP Champions across the UK. By providing resources and information to assist GPs, we hope to improve the standard of care being provided to those affected by brain injury across the UK.

Please help us to spread the word by following us on social media...you can find us on Facebook and Twitter and we would be delighted if you would like and follow us as we continue to try to raise awareness of these very important issues.

POST-MARATHON UPDATE: The day was great, and London was at its best: cheering, supporting, handing out jelly babies and orange slices to needy runners -- generosity of spirit and action. Felt an affinity with the Headway runners I saw, and am very grateful for your collective support of an important cause. Thank you.
xx Colleen

Thanks to Colleen and to all who supported her, Headway North London is really grateful for your support.
