Action for Brain Injury Week
13th - 19th May
2013
This year's Action for Brain Injury Week (ABI Week) will see the
launch of a positive campaign aimed at GPs to assist them with diagnosing and
appropriately signposting patients and carers affected by the often hidden
aspects of brain injury.
The aim of this campaign is to develop stronger working
relationships with GPs and new commissioning groups. By providing information
and resources, we want to help GPs better identify patients who may be affected
by brain injury and ensure they are subsequently referred to appropriate
services.
Brain injury is often referred to as a hidden disability and can lead to difficulties in diagnosis. Many people affected report to us that
they have had difficulty in accessing appropriate care and support, despite
presenting their problems to their GP.
We know that the majority of GPs provide first-rate care to those presenting with symptoms which indicate that brain
injury is, or could be, the reason behind their issues and we hope to highlight best practice by creating GP Champions
across the UK. By providing resources and information to assist
GPs, we hope to improve the standard of care being provided to those affected by brain injury across
the UK.
Please help us to spread the word by following us on social media...you can find us on Facebook and Twitter and we would be delighted if you would like and follow us as we continue to try to raise awareness of these very important issues.
